Step By Step "Wood Heater Instructions"

Best method for 'perfect' results every time.

Written Instructions Below

  • Step 1 Place 3 or 4 medium size pieces of wood e.g. 100mm pieces as a bottom / bed layer

  • Step 2 Note they are all hard up together

  • Step 3 Place 3-4 firelighters on top of the bottom layer.

  • Step 4 Place the firelighters in the crevice. As illustrated below

  • Step 5 Place smaller kindling size pieces of wood approx. 30mm in size over the top of the firelighters in a way so they are just touching them, and you can see the firelighters.

  • Step 6 Add slightly larger pieces on top again as you criss cross your way up leaving small gaps between but no larger than 20mm

  • Step 7 Fill any gaps with whatever size wood will fit as long as you can get to the fire lighters.

  • Step 8 Open the bottom lever / slide to the left

  • Step 9 Open the top side lever / slide to the left

  • Step 10 Light the firelighters with the lighter provided

  • Step 7 Once lit close door, set you timer for 5 minutes

  • Step 11 After 5 minutes close the bottom lever fully and set your timer again for another 5 minutes

  • Step 12 After the second round of 5 minutes (10 min from original ignition) close top lever to approx 1/2 closed.

  • Monitor fire from there, for the most heat and best effeciency, the flames should dance slowly. Afte about 20-30 minutes from initial ignition I generally shut the top lever all the way. But if the wood is a little damp from rain you may need to have it open a little.

CAUTION THE BOTTOM AIR CONTROL IS USED FOR STARTING THE FIRE ONLY. DO NOT LEAVE THE FIRE UNATTENDEDWITH THE BOTTOM OPEN AS OVERHEATING AND SPITTING HOT SPARKS THROUGH THE OPENING MAY OCCUR

Slow Burning: Overnight or going out for a period.

To make the fire burn for a long period, ensure you have a good coal base. Load the fire with large logs. Open the top air control lever fully for a few minutes to allow the logs to catch alight. Once alight close fully.
